Situated 260 km (160 mls) south of Minsk and 350 km (220 mls) east of Brest, the western boarder of Belarus, at the centre of Polessie Belarusian lowlands. The headquarters of the Nature Reserve is located at Turov town, 28 km (17 mls) from the Brest-Briansk highway. It was established in 1969.
It is located in the sub-zone of broad leaved and pine forests of the European broad leaved forest domain. The climate is temperate and warm with a not too hot summer, alternating with mild weather and snow cover in winter. It has an area of 750 sq. kms. The land is flat and low and actually constitutes an ancient flood-plain comprising of the Pripiat River bottom land.

There are several rivers and streams crossing the Nature Reserve from the south to the north. There are 30 small lakes dispersed over the territory.
Fauna of the Reserve consists of 45 mammal species, 256 species of birds, 7 types of reptiles, 11 amphibians and 37 species of fish. Amongst them are the European bison, badgers, lynx, black storks, grey cranes, short-toed eagles, greater-spotted eagles, horned owls, bog turtles, running toads, smooth snakes and sterlet. Flora is represented by 826 species of higher plants and more than 200 moss species. The Nature Reserve contains all the types of forest characteristic of Polyessie.
Of special interest ate the flood-plain landscapes where peculiar vegetation complexes have been formed after regular floods. These are represented by unique oak-groves and ashwoods, replaced by black alder and willows in the depressions. Amid the area are many small lakes with larges amount of fishes.
A number of different types of tours can be arranged for tourists; walking, waterways, riding and transport is made available. There is a recommended waterway journey from Turov along the Pripiat River and there is always plenty of opportunity for fishing.
