Berezinsky Biosphere Nature Reserve
It is located 120 km North of Minsk, a 20-km wide strip of lands stretching for more than 60 km from the source of the Berezina River to the Palik Lake. Boundless forests, fairyland swamps, rivers and lakes have existed here for thousands of years following their own laws and protecting the gorgeous world of animals and plants.
The reserve is an ideal site for numerous wild animals. There are 52 mammals, 217 birds, 10 amphibians, 5 reptiles and 34 fish species. There are more than 780 species of herbaceous plants on the Reserve.
Every season several walks are organised; in summer water routes along the ancient way of Vikings and Greeks. In the winter and summer there are unique wild-life scenes to be observed. For instance Capercallie and black-cock mating, holes and lairs of mammal predators, young ungulates, nests of rare birds, bison, elk, wild boars and wolves.
Along the ecological trail visitors can acquaint themselves with different types of forest and marshes which are typical in the South Taiga zone - they may also see many rare plant species.
There are water routes along the rivers and lakes in the Reserve that are very spectacular. The biggest river on the Reserve is the Beresina and there are many small and large lakes. Fishermen will find chub, bream, pike and tench which are all common here. After fascinating boat trips there can be arranged fishing, sauna baths or have a rest in the grounds or the hunting lodge. You may also want to enjoy the real Byelorussian cooking or cook your own fish over the camp fire. For amateurs a photo safari can be arranged at any time of the year (at least for 2 people).
Near the hotel is the Nature Museum with stuffed animals and birds that are typical of the wild-life on the Reserve. There is also an Ecological Education Centre with a hall for 200 people.
The hotel has 50 beds, restaurant, fire-place, sauna and there are small wooden huts for hire in the woods.
